How your support helped the RNLI in 2024

437 Lives saved

25,327 People aided by lifeboat crews and lifeguards

9,141 Lifeboat launches

I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

4 Harbours Walk

Sunday 3rd May
Today we cover 13.46miles, taking part in the Rotary Club of Banff 4 Harbours Walk from Buckie to Cullen and back.

Day 1 mile 1 done

Friday 1st May
Thank you to RAF Lossiemouth Station Commander for launching the start of our Mayday mile. Keep your eyes out for local media reports.

It is approaching fast

Thursday 16th Apr
Planning has been underway to work out our walking routes as well as explore what other walking adventures are happening in the area that we can align ourselves to. Two of us had a promising meeting yesterday to confirm how we will 'launch' our walk on Friday 1 May 26. Details to follow soon.
I am looking forward to getting out daily to do a mile or more as simply getting out for a short walk is a simple way to clear our minds and help with mental wellbeing whilst also raising awareness of the great work carried out by the RNLI and its volunteers.
We hope to have a calendar uploaded soon showing where we will be walking throughout May.

Every little yellow step counts

Tuesday 3rd Mar
During all my visits and holidays to the seaside I always respected the work that the RNLI do helping those in need when overwhelmed by our picturesque yet at times dangerous coastline. I always said that if I lived near the sea I would get involved with my nearest RNLI. I am now very grateful to be a volunteer fundraiser for Buckie RNLI on the Moray coast of Scotland and as part of that I am doing my part alongside other volunteers to raise money for the stirling work they do.
If you or anyone you know has enjoyed our beautiful coastlines, then consider donating to support our local station. In return I pledge to walk 1 mile everyday of May with a twist. Myself and one of my colleagues will walk 1 mile per day in May with a weight vest and dressed in the full yellow RNLI Personal Protective Equipment. Our final mile on the 31st of May will end at Buckie RNLI for it's open day. We hope to see you there.
